Oktava 100 Series Microphones –
Choice and Consistency
|
|
Oktava 100 Series microphones offer a choice of capsule types, capsule
housings and bodies to allow the recordist to choose the right tool for
the audio task at hand.
Choose between five models and select the perfect blend of frequency,
time and polar response for your next audio success. You’ll maintain
consistent quality no matter which mic you choose – all mics in the
Oktava 100 Series use the highly-regarded impedance converter / output
circuit found in highly successful Oktava MK-102 (over 90,000 in use
worldwide). This legendary transformerless circuit is clear, open and
reveals the glorious sound made possible by the microphone capsule
artisans of Tula, Russia. Oktava – Since 1927.

Introduced in 2004 the
MK-101 retains some of the vintage,
sibilance-free character of the popular MK-219/319 (almost 100,000 sold)
by using the same 26mm capsule found in those two popular models.
The MK-101 excels on vocals or guitar cabinets where the recordist wants
classic midrange presence, sibilant-free top end and a warm room sound
with just a touch of top end room presence.

Introduced in 2005 the
MK-102 features a small physical profile
and flat, extended frequency response – qualities not typically found
together in large diaphragm mics.
A close-fitting housing surrounds the capsule and allows the front
diaphragm to function in free-air without internal headbasket
reflections.
The MK-102 excels where the recordist desires a large diaphragm cardioid
condenser mic with flat frequency response maintained from 0 to 180
degrees to achieve smooth off-axis attenuation without ambient
coloration.

Released in October 2006, the
MK-103 mid-sized diaphragm (19.5mm)
mic provides a useful gradation in time domain response between small
and large diagram sizes while offering excellent cardioid pattern
attenuation over a broad frequency range.
The MK-103 excels where the recordist wants fast transient response,
extended high end and strong attenuation of mid frequency ambient room
sound.

Released in November, 2006 the
MK-104 features a completely new
27 mm large diaphragm capsule showcasing a new arrangement of
precision-drilled backplate holes for optimum time and frequency domain
performance. A groundbreaking new headbasket design features four
acoustically optimized vents that dramatically reduce reflections within
the headbasket to smooth the upper midrange response and improve
transient response detail.
This stunning new microphone is bright, clear and accurate without being
screechy, sizzly, spitty or scooped. The MK-104 is capable of rendering
high frequency transients sounds with accuracy and detail reminiscent of
a small diaphragm mic – but offers the flattering qualities of a large
diaphragm condenser.
The MK-104 excels where the recordist wants a flattering on-axis large
diaphragm cardioid sound, excellent transient response and bright room
ambience all while minimizing HF leakage from adjacent instruments.

Introduced in 2005, the
MK-105 with its 27.5mm capsule retains
the authorative lower midrange power Oktava is known for but adds some
top end sparkle with its dual presence and air peaks. This new capsule
is mounted on a conical diffuser designed to reduce standing waves and
smooth the capsule / headbasket system frequency response.
The MK-105 excels where the recordist wants a large diaphragm cardioid
mic with a musically useful proximity effect, a sparkling top end free
from sibilance and a bright room ambience sound.Further information about
